Moldova’s Government led by Prime Minister Ion Chicu showed lack of transparency and cooperation with Parliament during the spring-summer session. According to MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Radu Marian, the Government didn’t take into account MPs’ proposals over the COVDI-19 pandemic.
“Parliament was disconnected from the adoption of several extremely important decisions by the assumption of responsibility by the Government. The assumption of responsibility is a constitutional instrument, but it is applied in extremis, for example when Parliament is nonfunctional. In our case, we were ready to vote beneficial laws. Regrettably, the way in which these laws were adopted prevented the businesses and medical personnel from receiving the necessary assistance. As regards the so-called business support program with 320 million lei for subsidizing contributions to the salary budget, less than 10% of this fund had been used during three months and this seems very serious to me. We have companies that go bankrupt and cannot keep the jobs. The Government announced a program, but does not implement it,” Radu Marian stated in a public debate titled “How much and how Parliament worked for the people during spring-summer session?”, which was staged by IPN News Agency.
The PAS MP noted that another failure of the Government during the last session was the fact that it ignored the Parliament’s, including the opposition’s, proposals. “At the start of the pandemic, we said that we are ready to leave the misunderstandings aside and start to work together. Regrettably, this arrogance generated the current situation when we are the only country in Europe that didn’t offer real assistance to the business community. In our country, the support for the economy represented less than 0.5% of the GDP,” he noted.
Besides the lack of communication between the Government and Parliament, the administration, amid the pandemic, continued a number of electoral programs that could have been put off in favor of the immediate needs of the citizens. The actions taken by the Government will have very serious consequences for the people as the expenditure will have to be considerably cut, stated Radu Marian.
