Victor Stratila, the candidate for mayor of Chisinau of the Green Ecologist Party (PVE), commits himself to systemically stage cleanup campaigns so as transform the capital into a green and clean city.
In a news conference at IPN on April 26, Victor Stratila said cleanup events are held sporadically in the country, while in the capital city they are nothing but PR actions. The cleanup campaign that was recently announced by a ruling party is nothing but an attempt to distract attention from the problem related to the Nistru River, on which Ukraine intends to erect a number of hydropower plants. These plans can leave Chisinau without water.
Victor Stratila also said that the city is full of chaotically erected buildings, lacks green areas and parks. He promises to build belt roads so as to ease traffic in the capital city and to reduce environment pollution.
PVE chairman Anatolie Prohnitski said the Republic of Moldova is close to an ecological disaster. The woods are massively cut and the rivers are extremely polluted. The household waste is collected and processed in an improper way and there is plenty of such waste everywhere. This affects the quality of water in wells and springs, which is consumed mainly by people from rural areas. In election campaigns, all the candidates promise to make sure that the environment is protected, but forget about this promise after they are elected. Victor Stratila has a realistic environment protection program.
PVE deputy chairman Vasile Fotescu said Victor Stratila has the best electoral program concerning the protection of the environment, but this is a pressing need for the municipality of Chisinau. The candidate has only achievable promises that do not imply huge costs.
The PVE candidate is under No.7 on the ballot.
