MP of the parliamentary opposition Petru Frunze said the passenger transport is the most dangerous source of infection with the novel coronavirus. If the law enforcement agencies during workdays, in the morning and in the evening, examine the passenger routes serving large localities situated within 50 km from Chisinau and Bălți, they will find packed units of transport that represent a source of infection. An analytical note produced by the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT) says the solution proposed by the MP is to introduce additional routes as this will enable to considerably diminish the risk of infection, IPN reports.
Petru Frunze asked the Prosecutor General’s Office to examine the inaction of persons with responsible posts at the Ministry of Economy and Road Infrastructure in ensuring the implementation of solutions for liberalizing the passenger transport sector.
The analytical note says that one more problem exists in fact. As of May 10, five days before the lifting of the state of emergency, the Ministry of Home Affairs stopped to publish data about the activities it carries out to stop the spread of COVID-19, even if a public health emergency was declared for May 16 – June 30 and the epidemiological situation worsened.
There is information about the work done by the police to contain the COVID-19 pandemic only for the period between March 20 and May 9. No such data are available after May 10. For the same period, there is also information about the monitoring of the observance of restrictions in public transport.
The analytical note was compiled with support from the Good Governance Department of Soros Foundation Moldova.
