The chairman of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) Igor Dodon was nominated as a candidate for the October 30 presidential elections. Such a decision was taken by the party’s National Political Council on August 31, IPN reports.
Socialist MP Vlad Batrancea, in the opening of the meeting, said that discussions were held with all the local organizations of the PSRM with a view to nominating a candidate for President. Practically all the primary organizations of the party discussed the participation in the presidential elections and unanimously decided that the PSRM should compete in these. All the consulted local organizations proposed fielding Igor Dodon for President.
Igor Dodon told those attending that the first 25 years of independence were hard and dramatic for the county, with losses of territory and human lives and with loss of confidence in the political power, but we should learn the lesson from these harsh realities.
“The Constitutional Court’s judgment profoundly marked the political agenda and we understood that it is a unique chance to change the ratio of powers in the state. Now we can offer the people another model of government and the PSRM was among the first parties that reacted, announcing its intention to take part in the elections. I will do my best to meet the expectations of the people of Moldova. Today we officially launch the election campaign and during the next few days will collect signatures for being registered. I’m sure that we will do this technical exercise the first,” stated Igor Dodon.
The politician added that the PSRM is the most solid and popular political party in the country and has real chances of winning most of the votes in the next parliamentary and local elections as well and could thus take over at the central and local levels. He noted that for him personally, the victory in the presidential elections means possibility of implementing his ideas related to the country’s reunification, combating of unionism, confirmation of the Moldovan language and identity, replacement of the history of Romanians with the history of Moldovans, strengthening of the Christian and traditional values of the country, etc.
Afterward, the PSRM set up an initiative group for collecting signatures in support of the candidate for President and will later today summit the documents to the Central Election Commission for having the group registered.
