PSL asks BCC to review its decision on TVR

The Social-Liberals express their concern over the unwarrantable interference by the Chisinau political power in the activity of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC). In a press release, the Social Liberal Party (PSL) says that the granting of a broadcast license for the state-owned network No.2, which relays the television channel TVR1 at present, to a Moldovan anonymous post on September 27 shows once again that the BCC remains a simple instrument used by the ruling communist party to satisfy their interests. This case is an additional proof that the present broadcasting code is imperfect as the law favors the appointment of the BCC members according to political criteria. PSL ascertains with regret that the political interest was sacrificed and the communist governors could once again display their anti-Romanian attitude, the communiqué says. According to PSL, the fact that the contest was in reality won by persons close to the authorities shows a vivid economic interest: to control the advertising market in Moldova with the help of a TV channel with national coverage. The Social-Liberals ask the BCC members to review the decision. PSL appeals to the players involved to stop exerting pressure on the BCC and guarantee its functional autonomy provided by the law. Otherwise, the communiqué says, Moldova risks failing to meet the commitment under the EU-Moldova Action Plan.
