The constitutional referendum is crucial, and the failure to validate the plebiscite could endanger national security, the wellbeing of the population and the country’s prospects, the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) warned on Friday, IPN reports.
“The failure of the referendum could bring serious risks not only to national security, but also to the wellbeing of the population and to the continuation of the country’s European development and integration process,” said PSDE chairman Ion Sula.
According to him, the PSDE emphasized the fact that the accession negotiations to the European Union are not an overnight success, as the current government suggests. The party’s representatives reminded that the European integration process began almost 20 years ago, with the signing of the “European Union - Republic of Moldova Action Plan” in February 2005.
“European integration is not the exclusive merit of the current government. This journey began two decades ago, and the signing of the Action Plan in 2005 was the first important step in this regard. It is crucial to understand that this process will not end together with the replacement of government and will require constant efforts,” added the PSDE leader.
In order to prevent an unfavorable scenario for the country, the PSDE reiterates its support for the European integration process, urges all citizens to go to the polls massively on October 20 and to say a decisive “YES” so as to complete another decisive stage in the history of the Republic of Moldova.
