PSDE chairman: Union through infrastructure with Romania is short path of European integration

The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE), which is the lawful successor of the Democratic Party, is for the Republic of Moldova’s union with Romania. The chairman of PSDE Ion Sula said the Republic of Moldova is no longer sustainable from economic viewpoint and the union through infrastructure with Romania is the short path of European integration, IPN reports.

According to the politician, the PSDE is a Social-Democratic Party that supports the European development course. The Republic of Moldova can become an EU member state by covering all the stages of the accession process or by uniting with Romania, which is a shorter path.

“Today, being in the situation in which we are, we are no longer sustainable from economic viewpoint and need a strong partner. Our team pleads for the integration into the European Union and we have two possibilities here – a long path and a short path. The integration into the European Union in the classical way is the long path. The union through infrastructure with Romania is the short path for becoming a member state of the European Union and benefitting from legal rights so that we feel Europeans in the Republic of Moldova,” Ion Sula stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.

The politician noted the union with Romania should take place by implementing joint projects so that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova feel the advantages of European integration.

“I refer to energy interconnection, education programs. In the current times of crises, a part of the crude oil is provided by Romania. A part of the gas comes to us through the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline. When we were short of electricity, we took power also from Romania. These are our priorities we should reach. We now realize the necessity of integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European Union and already work to achieve this desideratum of joining the big European family,” said the chairman of the European Social Democratic Party.

Recently, Romania’s ex-Premier Ludovic Orban stated in Chisinau that the union with Romania is the short variant of Moldova’s integration into the EU and for this to happen the citizens need to express their wish in a referendum held both in Romania and in Moldova.
