Over 60% of the total number of companies and organizations submitted beneficial ownership statements, said the head of the Public Services Agency (PSA) Mircea Eșanu. According to him, the commercial banks support the Agency’s efforts to popularize this message among the business community and NGOs. As for the companies and organizations that have not yet submitted such statements, Mircea Eșanu said that most of them have insignificant or no activity, IPN reports.
The statements regarding the beneficial owner are mandatory for all companies and organizations, and the deadline for submissions is December 31, 2025. The head of the PSA noted that the entities that have not declared their beneficial owner do not have a significant economic activity.
"Of the more than 160,000 commercial or non-commercial organizations, 61% managed to declare. A fairly large number of companies, NGOs, individual enterprises or peasant farmsteads have done so. Moreover, the commercial banks were a good communication partner. They encouraged companies when these wanted to make payments to declare the beneficial owner. I think that a part of the 39% that did not submit these statements do not have much activity," Mircea Eșanu stated in the program "At 360 Degrees" on Radio Moldova.
He explained that the declaration of the beneficial owner is a European norm that is meant to increase the transparency of companies and organizations and to prevent the use of legal entities for illegal purposes.
"It's not that the state knows or doesn't know who the beneficial owner is. It's that this declaration must be assumed. People take responsibility because they are the beneficial owners. It is an important law for us, but the deadline set by the authorities previously was quite optimistic," said the head of the Public Services Agency.
Last week, the authorities decided to extend the deadline for submitting beneficial ownership statements until December 31, 2025, and fines will start to be imposed on January 1, 2026.
