Protesters stay in central square of Chisinau illegally, City Hall official

The protesters stay in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau illegally. In the September 7 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, the head of the Legal Assistance Division Diana Gurschi said the organizers of the protest filed a preliminary notification to the City Hall, as the law requires, but they did it not the first.

If there are several applicants asking being allowed to hold an event in the same place and at the same hour, if an agreement is not reached priority is given to the one that submits the notification the first, Diana Gurschi explained, quoted by IPN.

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca after the meeting said that the Law on Assembly is permissive. Even if a notification wasn’t filed, any person can stay in any place of the municipality of Chisinau when they want. A problem can appear if an application is submitted earlier and the demonstrators do not leave the Great National Assembly Square as a legal contradiction arouses and this is a matter within the competence of the court of law already.

The protest staged by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in the central square of Chisinau on September 6 brought together about 100,000 people, according to the organizers. The participants decided to protest on a permanent basis and put up tents in the square.
