Representatives of the community OccupyGuguță on August 11 staged a protest in support of those who protest against dictatorship and for democracy in Belarus, after the presidential elections won by Alexandr Lukashenko, at the Embassy of Belarus in Chisinau, IPN reports.

The protesters said they make common cause with the protesting people in Belarus, who were the target of police attacks. They wrote messages with chalk on sidewalks, but were warned by carabineers to stop. The protesters also said they disagree with the gesture made by President Igor Dodon, who congratulated Alexandr Lukashenko in the name of all the Moldovans.

The UNION Political Movement issued a press release, condemning the repression of peaceful protesters, the violent actions of the police that fired rubber bullet at protesters and used teargas and water cannons. It noted the arresting of independent journalists and the intimidation of opponents from the opposition result in even greater civil unrest. This will expand the people’s revolt for ousting the regime.
 
The youth organization of the PAS, together with young members of the PPPDA, staged a joint flash mob event “in solidarity with the neighbors from Belarus, who now struggle against the tyranny, corruption and dictatorship of Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled for 26 years.”

Alexander Lukashenko claimed he had won a landslide victory in an election marred by accusations of vote-rigging. The election commission announced on Monday that Lukashenko took 80.23% of the votes. Large protests broke out soon after the polls closed in Minsk, where a crowd of thousands gathered in the center of the capital.
