Prosecutors obtained supplementary powers
The prosecutors were attributed the authority to coordinate the activity of the penal investigation bodies, record bodies and of other bodies which perform operative investigation activity, in order to strengthen their efforts in fighting corruption.
The Parliament approved the introduction of the mentioned-above amendments in the Law on Prosecution in its last sitting.
The prosecutors will have the right to convene coordinating consultations, to organize work groups, to solicit statistic or other kind of information if needed.
According to Valeriu Balban, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova, introducing these changes was necessary because at present the record bodies were not involved in anyway in the activity of penal investigation. In addition, it is aimed to adjust the national legislation of the area to the norms of international Law and first of all, to the Recommendations of the Council of Europe, added Balaban, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
