Prosecutors focus on second round of local general elections

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) said it monitored the cases of violation of the electoral legislation before and during the elections of June 28. Following irregularities reported by the police, the prosecution bodies confirmed the starting of criminal cases over the hampering of the free exercise of the electoral right or of the activity of the electoral bodies and over the finding of ballots outside polling places and acts of hooliganism, IPN reports.

Simultaneously, legal action was taken over the use of false national observer’s permits in Oxentea, Dubasari, and alleged acts of corrupting a voter in Zberoaia, Nisporeni. More criminal cases may be started over campaigning on the day before the election day in Marinici, Nisporeni, based on the materials of the Nisporeni Police Inspectorate.

The prosecutors will investigate the cases of election rigging within a limited period of time so that the results are taken into account by courts before the validation or invalidation of the election results in each electoral district.
