Prosecutors carry out searches in Parliament Building within BEM case

Anticorruption prosecutors have carried out searches in the Parliament Building within the extended investigation into the stealing of money from Banca de Economii (BEM) and other banks. Prosecutor Eduard Harunjen has told IPN that documents are to be seized both from the Parliament Building and from the BEM. Afterward, there will be questioned a number of persons. No names have been yet given.

Last week, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin in a press briefing said the investigation into the case of detrimental management of state property will be extended. The investigation will be conducted by an extensive group of inquiry that will analyze the actions of the Public Procurement Agency, the National Bank, the National Commission for Financial Markets as well as the actions or inaction of decision-makers of the Government, Parliament, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Economy.
