Ruslan Popov was dismissed from the post of deputy prosecutor general. An order to this effect was signed by the acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu. Last December, Ruslan Popov was suspended from post in connection with the case in which he is investigated for unjust enrichment.
Contacted by IPN for details, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office Mariana Cherpec said that Dumitru Robu on March 28 decided to terminate the service relationship with prosecutor Ruslan Popov who didn’t express his readiness to take up another post of prosecutor.
Ruslan Popov earlier said that the list of vacancies does not include all the available vacant posts, including executive posts. Moreover, the Superior Council of Prosecutors arrogated to itself the right to decide that the deputy prosecutor general can choose only one executive post, not yet a managerial one.
For his part, Dumitru Robu said the Prosecutor General’s Office is to be reorganized and optimized and comprehensive information cannot be therefore presented. Ruslan Popov had 15 days at his disposal to choose a vacancy, but this period expired.
Ruslan Popov is investigated for unjust enrichment. He was arrested on October 9 and was later paced under judicial control under which he continues to be now.
