Prosecutor general to be questioned in open-door meeting
The legislative body decided that Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko will be questioned in a public meeting on October 28, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Earlier, Head of Parliament Marian Lupu proposed that the meeting be held behind closed doors so that the lawmakers are able to put any types of questions to the prosecutor and receive answers without the investigations conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office be affected.
Today the Speaker said that under the Parliament’s Regulations all the plenary sittings are public. When it is proposed that a sitting be closed, the proposal should be supported by the MPs.
Communist lawmaker Alexandr Petkov and Liberal MP Valeriu Saharneanu insisted that the meeting should be open.
When put to the vote, the proposal that the meeting should be closed was rejected. Thus, the press will have access to the October 28 sitting of the legislature.
Last week, Marian Lupu suggested questioning the prosecutor general in Parliament after the Liberal-Democrat MPs demanded that the Speaker should initiate the procedure for dismissing Valeriu Zubko.
