"Prometeu-Prim" Lyceum teachers and staff resign en masse to found another school

All the teachers and auxiliary staff employed at the "Prometeu-Prim" Lyceum resigned en masse on Monday. Starting September 3, they will be hired at the "Prometeu Pro-Talent" Lyceum - a new entity created by Aurelian Silvestru as an alternative to  "Prometeu-Prim". Statements in this regard were made by Aurelian Silvestru, who was dismissed from the position of director at the beginning of July by his two former associates.

According to Aurelian Silvestru, the new educational institution will continue its activity with the same children, with the same teachers, yet without the two associates. The education process will take place in the same buildings  on Nicolaie Iorga 1 and Nicolae Iorga 2. The new institution has the statute registration approval and the confirmation of registration in the State Register.

"You must have all the confidence that the fundamental strategy that we have put at the foundation of this institution will be further promoted," said Aurelian Silvestru in front of the parents.

The headmaster claims that his two associates decided to dismiss him from the position of director, even though his term expires on March 18, 2023. Additionally, they "destabilized the situation" and "organized an illegal contest to fill a position that is not free”.

Lawyer Victor Munteanu said that Aurelian Silvestru sued Ștefan Cioclea, the administrator of the Experimental Center "Prometeu" for illegal annual leave recall and illegal dismissal from office. He says he hoped that the parties will reach mediation until the very last moment, yet the defendant categorically refused. Moreover, according to Victor Munteanu, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research issued an approval, which, according to the statutory provisions, establishes that Aurelian Silvestru is still director of the institution, starting March 18, 2018, for a five year term.

Roman Nicu, one of the founders and current interim director of the "Prometeu-Prim" Lyceum, says that he acted within the limits of the law and that his actions were in accordance with normative acts such as the Civil Code, the Education Code and the Statute of the Private Education Institution - Lyceum of Creativity and Invention "Prometeu-Prim". He suggested that the doors of the institution might be closed at the beginning of the school year and that parents and students might not have access.

The parents and teachers present at the event almost unanimously voted for an initiative which aimed to adopt the new statute for the Lyceum. The vote was an act of solidarity with Aurelian Silvestru and a condemnation of the actions of the other two founders.Through the same initiative, parents and teachers asked the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, as well as other relevant bodies in the country, to verify the legality of registering the new statute of the Prometeu-Prim Lyceum, as well as the legality of holding the employment contest for the position of headmaster of the Lyceum.

On August 13, a contest for the position of headmaster at the "Prometeu-Prim" Lyceum was held. Three candidates participated in the competition. The contest was won by Tatiana Verdeș, pro-rector for scientific activity at the University of European Political and Economic Studies "Constantin Stere" and Romanian language teacher at "Stefan cel Mare" Lyceum. At that time, several teachers from "Prometeu" said that the contest is nothing but "a very ugly show".

"Prometeu" Lyceum was established on August 29, 1991.
