Program of events on Our Language Day

A number of cultural events will be staged on August 31, when the Chisinau City Hall traditionally organizes the Our Romanian Language holiday. The program will start will laying of flowers at busts on the Alley of Classical Writers and will continue with a poetry recital to honor the Romanian language and a concert in the Great National Assembly Square, IPN reports.

Culture Division head Lucia Culev said that the contest “Dictation for Everyone” was held on August 26 on the occasion of this holiday. It involved about 800 participants. The results will be announced in an event on the Alley of Classical Writers at midday on August 31. It is already known that the results are better than the previous years.

According to Lucia Culev, this year the local authorities decided to lay emphasis on artists, writers, composers and young people who represent Moldova with dignity all over the world. At 10:30am on August 31, there will be held a public debate on the language spoken now in Moldova. The book “Paper tongue” by Tamara Caraus will be launched at 11am. At 12:30pm, there will be unveiled the memorial plaque “Leonida Lari” placed on a block on Nicolae Iorga St, where the poet lived.

A symphonic orchestra consisting of the best instrumentalists of the country, directed by Dumitru Carciumaru, will give a concert in the central square of Chisinau in the evening. Among the performing soloists will be Mariana Bulicanu, Vasile Iovu and Tanea Cerga. Alex Calancea Band will give a recital together with Natalia Barbu, Guz, Viola and others. Another recital will be held by the municipal orchestra of Advahov brothers. The performance by the band Alternosfera will be the last of the series of events.

The concert starts at 5:30pm and ends at 11:30pm.
