Profit margin on drugs will have different rates

The profit margin on medicines and other pharmaceutical products will have different sizes and will no longer be a common one of 40%, IPN reports, quoting a Government decision.

It is suggested that the number of groups of drugs should be extended from one to five. For the medicines whose producer price is up to 30 lei, the profit margin will be up to 40% (up to 15% for economic entities that import or distribute drugs wholesale and up to 25% for drugstores). The profit margin on drugs costing 31-60 lei will be up to 32% (12% and 20% respectively), while on drugs of 61-120 lei – up to 26% (10% and 16% respectively). The profit margin on drugs whose prices vary between 121 and 240 lei will be up to 21%, while on the most expensive drugs – up to 16%.

Minister of Health Mircea Buga said the implementation of this mechanism will contribute to reducing the prices of medicines and other pharmaceutical products by 4.35%, while of the prices in drugstores by 9.65%, by 14% in all. The prices of 80% of the medicines in drugstores are to be decreased.

The bill is a legislative initiative put forward by a group of MPs. It is to be examined and adopted by Parliament.
