The national medical institutions were supplied with over 1,200 oxygen concentrators that were donated or were purchased. Another 300 oxygen concentrations from donations are to be delivered to Moldova. According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, all the oxygen producers interruptedly supply primarily the medical institutions with liquid and gaseous oxygen.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry has made considerable effort to supply the health facilities with the necessary equipment and consumables so that the patients benefit from proper medical care. As to the supply of oxygen concentrators, the intuitions were provided with liquid oxygen tanks and gaseous oxygen cylinders,” the Ministry noted in a response to IPN.
Oxygen therapy is part of the therapy in moderate and serious cases of COVID-19. The decline in oxygen saturation below 95% in patients with COVID-19 requires that the inhaled air be enriched with oxygen. Oxygen therapy lasts for 15-18 hours a day with interruptions of at most two hours.
The number of cases of COVID-19 in Moldova exceeded 207,000. The death toll due to the infection stands at 4,402. Of the 4,411 patients with COVID-19 who are hospitalized, 335 are in a very serious state and 69 patients were put on a ventilator.
