The IPN Experts focuses on the results of the National Political Council of the PDM that last week debated the party’s strategy for the immediate period, agreed the instruments that will be applied until the elections and referred to the future government program of “a powerful party, with a powerful leader”.

The confrontation of the recent statements with assertions of the previous years shows that even if the leader of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc informs about innovatory approaches, he actually inspires himself by the very old theses of his party, dating from the time of Dumitru Diacov and Marian Lupu. Furthermore, he resorts to “loans” from the Moldovenist theses of the PSRM. But the most curious thing is when he announces that he throws the napkin on the cimbalom – the propagandists of the PDM made considrable effort to promote geopolitics based on the European integration course and now they will have to become promoters of the Moldovenism and civic nation, according to the new-old strategy of the PDM.

Vice president of the PDM Vladimir Cebotari already managed to say on TV how a new state of affairs will be achieved. “We will launch a broad campaign to collect proposals from people who, for the first time, will create their own government program... We aim to gather together the problems and govern based on them so as to solve them,” stated the politician.

Do you see how easily success is projected in politics? For example, to please the electorate the City Hall managed by Silvia Radu announced the repair of eight underground pedestrian tunnels this year in Chisinau, but they do not succeed and only one passage will be repaired. Furthermore, 12 of the 20 underground pedestrian tunnels existing in the municipality of Chisinau are managed by business entities and the local authorities are unable to impose particular conditions on these.

Moreover, the people ascertain that the fiscal reform adopted by Parliament on July 26 this year will negatively influence the revenues collected into budget of Chisinau municipality. An analysis carried out by the General Finance Division shows that the municipality in the last quarter of 2018 will fail to collect 80 million lei in revenues after the fiscal reform takes effect on October 1 and another 400 million lei in 2019.

At the same time, the opposition has harsh, concrete objections in relation to the Democratic leader. The Committee of the National Resistance Movement  ACUM submitted an application to the National Integrity Authority by which it asked to initiate the procedure for confiscating the undeserved property of the leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc. PAS leader Maia Sandu said a journalistic investigation revealed that the president of the PDM owns four luxury villages that have never been indicated in the property statements of Vlad Plahotniuc, when this held a public post, even if the law obliges him to do this.

The journalists are also dissatisfied. Media nongovernmental organizations expressed their concern about the prevention of journalists of TV8 from attending the September 14 meeting of the National Political Council of the Democratic Party of Moldova.

In another development, German Chancellor Angela Merkel accused Russia of destabilizing the situation in a number of post-Soviet countries. During her speech addressing German soldiers deployed in Lithuania, she said that “almost all former Soviet republics, which are not members of the EU and NATO, have to deal with the internal conflicts whipped up by Russia”.

The pressure of the conflict in Moldova’s eastern districts is felt daily. It is fully unacceptable for the so-called Transnistrian Armed Forces to conduct military exercises in the Security Zone, as these did near Tiraspol on  September 14.The OSCE Mission to Moldova expressed its concern about these exercises, issuing a press release on the issue.

According to another press release, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, a new program of strategic opportunities for the Republic of Moldova for 2019 – 2024 to the value of US$40 million was approved by International Fund for Agricultural Development. Since it entered Moldova in 1999, IFAD supported seven programs to the value of over US$ 120 million that benefitted more than 135,000 people from rural areas.

After the Union March of September 1 and the Centenarfest of September 15-16, the unionists will stage a unionist car march in Chisinau on September 23. The about 100 cars will carry the tricolor and patriotic music will be played throughout the event. The march forms part of the series of events organized by the Alliance for the Centenary on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Great Union.
