The ex-president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tănase said a lot will depend on the court decisions that will be taken over the complaints filed by election runners. The Constitutional Court will decide to what extent the presented violations could influence the election results. “After I heard the reaction of international observers, it is highly improbable,” stated Alexandru Tănase.

Ex-minister of defense Vitalie Marinuța, who ran on behalf of the Ecologist Green Party, said the parliamentary elections were won by populist parties. Politics is the art of compromise and each party should leave a door open for talks. “I do not think we will have rerun or snap elections. The messages  transmitted by the Democratic Party show this, while the so-called opposition – the PSRM – confirms this,” stated Vitalie Marinuță. According to him, judging by all the signals, a minority government will be formed and the Socialists will support the initiatives they consider beneficial to them.

The president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă said he regrets that unionists will not form part of the future Parliament.

According to President Igor Dodon, after the Constitutional Court validates the elections, the Party of Socialists should be the first to come up with an offer as it gained the most votes in the elections and the most seats of MP. He said it is logical for the Socialists to see if they can form an alliance with representatives of the bloc NOW. “These two political entities, of the left and of the right, have a lot of divergences, but also one common point – they both promised to do their best to replace the government. If they have enough wisdom and intelligence, they should sit at the negotiating table and discuss,” he stated.

Analyzing the provided arguments and the electoral documents presented by the Central Election Commission, the Constitutional Court decided to reject the request to recount the votes cast in single-member constituency No. 4 Râșcani. According to the Court, Iurie Urzică didn’t present evidence showing the election results were affected indeed.

NGOs from four regions of Moldova – North, Center, South and ATU Gagauzia – will receive grants to the total value of €3.75 million to contribute to the involvement of citizens in the process of planning and providing public services, monitoring public authorities and in the local decision-making process in the public services sector. The citizens will be encouraged to address environmental and health problems, to agree the priorities and solutions to related problems together with the public authorities. They will also contribute to building public institutions’ capacities to use participatory and inclusive methods in the process of taking decisions and working out policies. The participation and engagement of citizens in the planning and provision of public services will enable the people to monitor the activity of public authorities and to actively become involved in the local decision-making process. The goal of the project is to engage at least 18 NGOs and 1,800 people in the formulation of local public policies.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip requested to immediately modify the law on waste. He underlined that not the lack of money is the biggest constraint in dealing with this problem, but the absence of a national solid waste management program. “I’m sure that if a national solid waste management program had existed from the start, since the declaration of independence, as in many other countries, we wouldn’t have spoken about this problem now,” he noted.

The future Government will have to cope with the rise in the budget deficit in parallel with the slowdown in economic growth, said experts of the Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup”. In a new edition of “Economic Reality”, the experts said 2019 will be marked by two contradictory phenomena – the fever of electoral initiatives and policies that will most probably be followed by particular unpleasant adjustments in the post-electoral period. “The intensification of populist and electoral policies before the elections is not something new for the Republic of Moldova or other states. However, the élan of promises and policies with an evidently negative budgetary impact launched before the parliamentary elections by the government in Chisinau surely generate concerns, especially about the rise in the budget deficit and the loans raised by the Government from banks.”

Four persons aged between 17 and 32 were arrested on suspicion that they tried to rob the post office in Alexăndreni village of Sângerei district in the afternoon of March 6. An employee managed to push the panic button.

An exhibition entitled “Bessarabian woman, an argument of eternity” was mounted at the National Library of Moldova. This brings together over 100 materials that describe the contribution made by the women from Bessarabia and the Republic of Moldova to politics, science, education, culture, arts and society. National Library director Elena Pintilei said the event comes to highlight the heritage kept at the institution and also the life and work of women from Bessarabia and the Republic of Moldova who went down in history for their deeds.
