Fiodor Ghelici said Russia interferes in the election campaign in Moldova. “Please, don’t exert pressure on our voters and don’t blackmail us,” stated the activist, addressing President Dodon. The activist also said the Moldovans endured for years the dispossessions of land, the interference in the Transnistrian region as they are tolerant. But the business entities started to orient to the European market as the Russian Federation  is no longer a reliable partner. The young people who earlier worked in the Russian Federation leave to the EU and the U.S. as they saw a better life there.

In a news conference, PAS leader Maia Sandu, co-president of the bloc ACUM, said the bloc pledges to fully and responsibly fulfil all the commitments stipulated in the Association Agreement so that Moldova could file the application for EU membership until 2023. “The bloc ACUM is the only credible force that can guarantee the European integration of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Maia Sandu.

“Integrating into Europe means seriously undertaking the good and very good methods of functioning and development of democratic societies in western Europe. Integrating into Europe actually means living well here, in Moldova,” stated the leader of PPPDA Andrei Năstase, co-president of the bloc.

The Party “People’s Will” considers the consultative referendum of February 24 is an illegal and undemocratic exercise and represents very expensive advertising for the Democratic Party at the expense of the people. The Party “Democracy at Home” calls on the voters from the diaspora not to take part in the referendum so as not to lose time and more Moldovans who are abroad could vote in the parliamentary elections. It also calls upon the voters from the country to write the word “union” on the ballots for the referendum. The Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda” is for reducing the number of MPs, but is against the recalling of MPs and urges the voters to write “we want capital punishment for corrupt MPs” on the second ballot for the plebiscite.

The Party “People’s Will” and the Professionals’ Movement “Speranța-Nadejda” boycott the elections in uninominal constituencies, while the Party “Democracy at Home”, even if it runs in the elections in regions, condemns the replacement of the proportional representation system with the mixed electoral system.

After the parliamentary elections of February 24, the principles of government by authentic coalition should be restored, as should be the social-political equity through the presence of the Greens in Parliament, as in other countries where the problems and solutions can be similar, said representatives of the Ecologist Green Party. Also, in Parliament, after a centenary year during which the Romanian zeal rose to the highest level, a real unionist voice should enter the legislature to promote and explain the importance of the union with Romania as the only reliable solution for the Republic of Moldova, said representatives of the Liberal Party.

The interim report presented by the ENEMO Mission is neutral, but the reality in the Republic of Moldova is now harsher than this report shows. Political commentator Alexandr Petkov said we cannot speak now about a democratic electoral process, a democratic exercise as it should be. “We cannot speak about the people’s participation in the decision-making process through elections as these are not elections. What the observer say clearly reveals these shortcomings. I don’t know what the ambassadors expect at present,” stated the commentator.

Former Chisinau councilor Oleg Cernei said every day we can see cars with people with bags in district centers or people who are brought by minibuses to the Orhei mayor’s office at nocturnal hours, where people from the mayor’s office go out with bags and no state institution takes measures, either the Central Election Commission or the law enforcement agencies, and this is indescribable.

The geopolitical aspect does not have the same impact in the current election campaign as at the previous parliamentary elections. Politologist Alexandru Solcan said particular economic growth based on social support was witnessed before the elections and the government affirms it will maintain this trend. “There is also the empty part of the glass. The current government is associated with the banking fraud and even if, as many experts say, the problems were overcome, particular sums of money weren’t recovered,” he said.

Political analyst Anatol Țăranu said it is harder when you are in the opposition, especially if you have never been in power. You then promise things that volens-nolens can be classed as populism.

During the first year of activity, over 6,600 persons were employed at companies working on the territory of Moldova IT Park. The average salary of these grew to almost 26,000 lei. In the period, resident companies’ exports increased to 600 million lei in the fourth quarter, while the number of companies with foreign capital rose to 96.

As from February 5, the new jointly operated border crossing point Palanca can be crossed by all the categories of vehicles. The new border crossing point Palanca was built with €4.5 million invested by the European Union and €1.68 million by the Government of the Republic of Moldova.

Democratic MP Marian Lupu is the only aspirant for the post of president of the Court of Auditors. The Parliament’s commission on economy, budget and finance in its February 5 meeting examined the file and decided that the candidate meets all the conditions for being admitted to the public contest.

A man aged 68 from Chisinau died after developing complications associated with flu. This is the 13th life claimed by flu in the period between October 1, 2018 and January 31, 2019. None of the victims had been vaccinated against flu even if these formed part of the category of people facing an increased risk of infection.
