Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca approved the general principles for implementing the electronic ticketing system in the public transport of Chisinau municipality, applicable to high-capacity transport lines. The current ticketing system will be replaced by the electronic system within six months of the launch of the project.
Within the electronic ticketing system, the passengers hold special cards with which they pay for trips. The cards are loaded through different devices, including POS terminals that will be installed near public transport stations.
When the new ticketing system is implemented, there will be approved new public transport fares. The Chisinau City Hall will demand amending the Code of Administrative Offenses, namely the procedure for penalizing travelers who do not pay for the trip.
The head of the Chisinau Transport Management Division Lilian Copaci has told IPN that under the strategy for reforming the public transport in Chisinau municipality, which was approved by the Municipal Council last yearend, after the principles for implementing the electronic ticketing system are approved, there is worked out the plan of action and held a tender contest to choose a company that will implement this system. The six-month period for implementing the project starts afterward.
