Primary dealers purchased securities worth MDL 2.3 bln in 2006
Those 11 commercial banks, primary dealers, purchased securities in an amount of MDL 2 bln 318.5 mln, which constitutes 91.1% of the value offered by the Ministry of Finance. In 2005 this indicator equalled to 93.9%.
Out of total value of adjudged state securities, 88.7% (MDL 2 bln 175,1 mln) were purchased by primary dealers on their name and on own account, which represented a growth, as compared to 2005, both in absolute value and as weighted value. The securities purchased on behalf of and on the account of clients amounted to 5.8% (MDL 143,4 mln), decreasing as compared to the previous year.
In 2006, the volume of transactions with state securities concluded by primary dealers in the secondary market totalled 30.6 million lei. Within the structure of SS traded in the secondary market, the participants’ preferences focused on SS with the terms ranging between 28 days and 91 days.
It is worth mentioning that the money received by the Ministry of Finances from the SS are used for covering the budgetary deficit.
As partners of the National Bank of Moldova in promoting the monetary policy, the primary dealers participated actively over the reported year in operations aimed at draining the system’s excess liquidity. In the reporting period, the Certificates of the National Bank were placed via the primary dealers in an amount of MDL 6 bln 657 mln at nominal value, which constituted a significant increase as compared to the previous year.
The most active banks-primary dealers in the SS primary and secondary markets in 2006 were: “Banca de Economii”, “Moldova-Agroindbank”, “Victoriabank”, “Mobiasbanca”, “Eximbank” and “Banca Sociala” SA.
