Presidential administration reacts to launch of new consultations

The presidential administration reacted to the request to launch new consultations for agreeing a candidate for Prime Minister, saying that it received an extract from the proceedings of the March 18 meeting of Parliament. The presidential administration said new consultations with the parliamentary groups can take place after the effects of the March 16 decree issued after consultations held by the President earlier the same day are exhausted, IPN reports.

It also said that it took note of the statement of the candidate for Prime Minister Igor Grosu, who said that he will discuss with the parliamentary groups so as to obtain support for the Government to be invested.

After negotiations held with the parliamentary groups on March 16, President Maia Sandu said that she took note of Mariana Durleșteanu’s decision to withdraw her candidacy for premiership and, as there was no candidate supported by a formalized parliamentary majority, she decided to propose PAS president Igor Grosu for Prime Minister. On March 17, the Party of Socialists challenged the presidential decree in the Constitutional Court and the next day announced the formation of a parliamentary majority that proposed current Ambassador of Moldova to Russia Vladimir Golovatiuc for Prime Minister.
