Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin is preparing his successor. He made the statement on October 22 in program aired by NIT TV, moderated by a Russian journalist, Vladimir Soloviov, Info-Prim Neo reports. When asked if he intuits a successor, Vladimir Voronin has answered that he not only intuits, but makes “efforts concretely oriented to form, prepare that person.” The President avoided to give a name of his future successor, but said the Communists Party will propose “a worthy candidate, a respectable man, well know in Moldova, respected and supported.” According to Voronin, that man does not know yet he is going to be nominated and learn about it in the due time. Voronin says he is preparing a successor because he is not indifferent at Moldova's fate, and that person shall bring to an end what he has started, but also to find other solutions to continue the reforms started by the Communists. The President has said that the circle of pretenders is big. Becoming the President depends on the parliamentary elections because the President is elected by the Parliament in Moldova, Voronin explained. He has underlined that he is satisfied with his team for the first time in 8 years, as it is made up from “young professionals genuinely working in all directions and not because someone is pushing them, but because they want to assert themselves in their positions.” Voronin has hinted these young professionals will be on the Communists list for the the coming electoral race. Vladimir Voronin has reiterated he will not leave the political arena after his mandate expires. “Not being a President does not mean I will not be with the people, with the country. I will necessarily stay in active politics, even if I am a simple parliamentarian. The customs in Moldova is that the leader of the party heads the list for the Parliament,” Voronin stated. The media hinted at a number of names as successors of Vladimir Voronin: ex-premier Vasile Tarlev, speaker Marian Lupu, ex-presidential advisor Mark Tkaciuk and premier Zinaida Greceanai.
