President Vladimir Voronin Pays Homage to Veterans of the Great Patriotic War

„Even Moldova is still far from a prosperous economic situation, the whole society, all power braches, give their best to support participants at the II World War”, president Vladimir Voronin said in his speech addressed to veterans at the event held at the Memorial of the Military Glory on May 9. After the current government has adopted the Law on Veterans, it founds every year new ways to support those „who defended us in the ‘40s, extremely difficult years, and to ensure them the necessary social protection”, Voronin noted. „You were those who have sincerely tried for the first time ever to see an Europe of new values – an Europe without wars, an Europe of peaceful development, an Europe free of Nazism and oppression. If the actual Europe managed in the end to become namely the way it is now, this happened only due to the fact that in its history existed the day of 9 May 1945,” Voronin highlighted. According to the Head of the State, „the war veterans can see for themselves that in Moldova now, the memory of the II World War is not a change coin within political games, it is not a hostage of electoral campaigns, that this memory became a part of the national heritage.” „We know that the one who will try to break this logic of the history, this continuity in appreciating the Great Victory, that person will again break that life line, which you have defended so eagerly. I know, and I am convinced that on Moldova’s ground this thing will never happen. Moldova’s population, with sincere and eternal gratefulness, will glorify your Army Action, will remember those thousands of soldiers dead for our country’s freedom,” Vladimir Voronin said in his allocation on 9 May.
