President Maia Sandu will pay an official visit to Romania on July 29 at the invitation of her Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis. According to the Romanian presidential administration, the visit will give the officials the occasion of having the first direct bilateral meeting after the European Council’s historic decision of June 23-24, 2022 by which Moldova was granted the EU candidate status, IPN reports.
“In the context of the meeting, the President of Romania will reaffirm our country’s firm support for the advancement of the reformation process in the Republic of Moldova, which is necessary for achieving objectives set through the European Commission’s Opinion of June 17, 2022,” runs a press release of the Romanian presidential administration.
Besides the support for the European course of Moldova, there will be discussed the regional developments in the context of Russia’s aggression war against Ukraine and methods of counteracting its negative effects on Moldova, the importance of the Moldova Support Platform launched by Romania, Germany and France to muster support for the Moldovan authorities’ efforts to do the reforms needed in the European integration process and principal issues that are on the bilateral agenda, such as the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and sector cooperation in key areas.
“The official visit is paid in the wake of the substantial intensification of the bilateral dialogue and cooperation at the highest level and also at governmental and parliamentary levels, in the spirit of the common language, culture and history of Romania and the Republic of Moldova and of the bilateral Strategic Partnership for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova,” reads the press release.
