Moldovan President Maia Sandu met, during her working visit to Berlin, with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The two officials spoke about the latest security developments in the region, the impact of the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. The Moldovan president emphasized the importance of European unity in the face of these challenges.
The Moldovan-German relations and future cooperation projects were also discussed during the meeting. Maia Sandu stated that the authorities in Chisinau have made a firm commitment to advance the reform agenda, despite all the challenges.
“I thanked the federal chancellor for supporting our European path in the process of obtaining EU candidate status and I appreciated the initiative to launch, together with France and Romania, the Support Platform for Moldova. I also expressed my gratitude for the support that Moldova has received in the last three decades from the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation, through the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ)”, Maia Sandu was quoted in a press release of her staff.
The Moldovan president added that, thanks to the successful Moldovan-German cooperation, dozens of communities in Moldova were able to modernize their infrastructure, and citizens have access to water and sewage and quality public services. “We also discussed the major role of German investments, which brought new industries to our country’s regions and gave thousands of people the opportunity to work at home”, the president said.
