President responds to Premier: Dismissals are within Parliament’s competence

The firing of the administration of the National Bank, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Commission for Financial Markets is within the exclusive competence of Parliament and the involvement of the head of state in this procedure will be not within the law. This is the answer given by President Nicolae Timofti to the Premier’s letter, IPN reports.

According to the presidential press service, Chiril Gaburici presented personally his request in written form to the heads of state and the same day Nicolae Timofti had a discussion with the Premier about the problems the latter highlighted.

The head of state shares the Premier’s concerns about the situation in the financial-banking sector. Over the last three years, this subject has been repeatedly discussed by the Supreme Security Council and the Government was provided with information about the malfunctions in this sector.

The investigations and criminal cases started in this case must be handled with maximum responsibility so that all the illegalities are elucidated, while those who committed the theft are held accountable.

On June 6, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici published a letter on a social networking site, by which he asks for support from the head of state and Parliament in dismissing the administration of the National Bank, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Commission for Financial Markets. The Premier said he will resign in a month if decision makers of the mentioned institutions are not fired.
