President is asked to immediately convene Supreme Security Council

The Council of the public association “Tiras-Tighina” called on President Nicolae Timofti to immediately convoke the Supreme Security Council so as to agree a plan for preventing the destabilization of the internal situation. In a news conference at IPN, the association’s leader Anatolie Caraman said that “Tiras-Tighina” received a number of letters where the authors express concerns about the intensification of the separatist acts by forces that openly call for the territorial division of Moldova.

“It must be clear that Moldova’s people do not want to experience the horrors of a war, but a group of individuals started to stir things up, call for rebellion and threaten the population with the territorial separation of the country by violence. We, the war veterans, have many Gagauz friends in Comrat and Chisinau, who have democratic views and are eager to see Moldova become part of the EU. Many Gagauz people are indignant that the law enforcement bodies take no concrete steps to neutralize separatism and to hold accountable those who call to arms,” said Anatolie Caraman.

The Council of “Tiras-Tighina” edited a letter, saying that in order to prevent the division of the country’s territory and bloodshed, President Nicolae Timofti should convene the Supreme Security Council, which should adopt a joint plan of cooperation between the competent bodies for seizing the arms and ammunition collected illegally and for arresting the citizens and foreigners who contribute to destabilizing the sociopolitical situation in Moldova.

Simultaneously, Parliament is requested to immediately review the legislation concerning the counteracting of separatism and calls to arms by instituting criminal punishment. Prime Minister Iurie Leanca is asked to immediately order that the Bashkan of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal, who is a member of the Cabinet, present a report.

“We consider that the competent state bodies – the Security and Information Service, the Prosecutor’s Office and the police – must apply the law against the individuals who call for separatism and war so as not to allow hindering Moldova from following its European course. We call upon the senior administration to review the reform of the Ministry of the Interior so as to remove the made mistakes. We, the war veterans, support Moldova’s administration in its effort to promote the European integration process and, if necessary, are ready to defend the national ideals,” reads the letter addressed to the head of state.

The war veterans who are members of “Tiras-Tighina” said that they will personally hand over the letter to President Nicolae Timofti and expect that he will take measures.
