President Igor Dodon says he is ready to become the first Moldovan to get a shot of Sputnik V, touted by Russia as the world’s first registered Covid-19 vaccine, if this helps to dissipate the skepticism around it.

Speaking from a wooded location, believed to be the park of a health spa near Moscow, Igor Dodon addressed the audience of his “President Q&A” vlog: “One thing is already clear – there is no such thing as collective immunity (for Covid-19). So one thing we can do is listen to what doctors tell us. On the other hand, of course, we all hope a vaccine appears as soon as possible.”

“I’m ready to risk my own health, if necessary, so that Moldova can get this vaccine as soon as possible,” stated Dodon.

He added that the Russian vaccine is not available to foreigners yet, but when it becomes, he will volunteer to be the first Moldovan to get it.

“I hope this will remove the risks and skepticism among some Moldovans.”

Upon his return to Moldova, Igor Dodon says he will spend several days in self-isolation before getting a test. The current legislation mandates 14 days of quarantine for anyone returning from abroad, unless the travel was for official or business purposes.

The President also promised that next week will be “eventful.”
