Premier Vasile Tarlev is dissatisfied with statistics carried out in Moldova
Premier Vasile Tarlev is disgruntled at the way the statistical analyses are carried out in Moldova and seeks convergence to EU standards in the statistical system.
As he says, the foreign experts voiced their concern about the data of the official statistics in Moldova, considering that they are not calculated accurately. “People that read them think the country is poor, but when they come here and see the pace of development in constructions, in economy on the whole, are very surprised”, stated Tarlev.
Premier is “sure that something is happening in Moldova”, but till now the authorities did not react to the created situation. That is why Vasile Tarlev has signed an ordinance according to which the Minister of Economy and Commerce Igor Dodon was mandated to head a work group, composed of representatives of a number of state institutions, including those of the National Statistical Bureau, so as to “thoroughly analyse” the statistical system in Moldova. Tarlev asked this group to examine the EU standards in the field and possibility of implementing them in Moldova.
“We do not need artificial statistical figures, we need authentic statistics”, Prime Minister underlined. He requested the working group to present in due time conclusions and concrete proposals to reform the statistical system in Moldova.
