Premier Energy Distribution announces the expansion of the project to set up smart meters in 2025, with plans to install over 20,000 such devices in its network, to support the new differentiated pricing system for electricity approved by the National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER). The meters will be adapted to record the electricity consumption on hourly intervals so that the new charges approved by the Agency can be applied, IPN reports.
About 25,000 smart meters were installed so far for non-household consumers. Within a pilot project carried out in cooperation with UNDP Moldova, about 3,000 meters have been fitted, of which 2,721 for household consumers and 256 for non-household consumers.
Starting with 2025, within the Smart Metering project, the expansion will continue, and approximately 20,401 smart electricity meters will be installed in various areas served by ÎCS Premier Energy Distribution SA. The meters will help consumers benefit from lower charges for energy consumed at night, between 11:00 p.m. and 07:00 a.m., and higher charges for daytime consumption, between 07:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
To benefit from this differentiated pricing system, consumers must install smart meters that can measure consumption by hours. Those who already have smart meters will be parameterized according to the new charge rates, while those who do not have such meters will have to purchase and install the devices at their expense. The parameterization of the meters will be carried out by the distribution operator at the user's place of consumption.
The meters will be mandatorily parametrized by the distribution system operator at the user's place of consumption. After installing the meter, the consumer will have to submit a request to the electricity supplier to modify the power supply contract.
For additional details, consumers can consult the official website of the NAER or contact the operator for information on the steps that need to be taken to set up the new smart meters and the benefits of differentiated charges.
