The Government knows the problems experienced by grain producers and is looking for resources to support the farmers, said Prime Minister Dorin Recean. He noted that a rich harvest can be obtained only by implementing scientific and technological innovations, IPN reports.
During the discussions with farmers from the south of the country, Dorin Recean said that the existing problems can be overcome by investing in advanced irrigation technologies, widening the crop assortment, using adapted hybrids and respecting the rotation. In the medium and long term, close cooperation between experts and farming communities is required, along with the adoption of legislative changes that will support farmers’ activity.
The official encouraged discussions and consultations through the agency of agricultural chambers, as well as decision-making based on economic and scientific calculations.
Representatives of the local public authorities of Cantemir, Cahul and Taraclia and farmers from the region said that the absence of irrigation is the main problem that directly affects agricultural production and the profitability of farms in this area.
During July 12-17, the heat wave continued to expand and the air temperature reached +40°C. Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry set up a working group that includes researchers to manage the challenges faced by the agricultural sector as a result of climate change.
