Premier about protest: We regret that some people allowed to be directed from behind

“We were all saddened by the hysterical event staged by hidden political forces by manipulating a group of protesters and by inciting hatred and violence on his hoy day for the country,” said Prime Minister Ion Chicu, commenting on the protest mounted by veterans in the central square of Chisinau on March 2. According to the Premier, breaking the doors of the Government building, of a state institution is not a proof of patriotism. On the contrary, it is a proof that you hate the country’s edifices and the edifices of statehood. And these edifices belong not to the Premier or an official, but to the people of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

Premier Chicu said that March 2 is a day when those killed in the Nistru war are remembered. It is the day of those who fought for the motherland. It is the day of profound and painful reflections about the past and of encouraging statements about the future. The absolute majority of war veterans were today near the Moldovan authorities to render homage to the heroes and this is praiseworthy.

“I want to remind you that the Government since January 1, 2020 increased the monthly allowances for veterans from 100 to 300 lei. The annual cost is of 64.3 million lei. Later, there was drafted a bill that allows to raise the monthly allowances of war widows from 250 to 500 lei as from July 1, 2020. The annual cost is of over 3 million lei. A bill is drafted to provide health insurance policies free of charge to war veterans who do not work. For rehabilitating war veterans, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection allocated an extra 650,000 lei for financing the National Experimental Center for Prostheses, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation,” Ion Chicu wrote on Facebook.

“We regret that some people allowed to be directed from behind by forces that want the situation in the Republic of Moldova to be destabilized by hatred, aggression and social division. We hope they will realize that they are wrong. I call on everyone to show calmness and wisdom. We can ensure the proper development of the country and our territorial reunification only by conciliation and understanding.”

The veterans have protested in the Great National Assembly Square, being dissatisfied with the authorities’ attitude to them. They seek the resignation of the Government and of President Igor Dodon. The police formed a cordon around the Government Building, hampering the protesters’ access to this.
