Preconditions for strengthening Strategic Partnership between Romania and Moldova

The Supreme Council of National Defense of Romania on Thursday analyzed the options for strengthening the Strategic Partnership with the Republic of Moldova, highlighting the risks in order to efficiently and consistently manage the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova. The meeting, chaired by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, underscored the major opportunities arising from the process of joining the European Union and also the challenges faced by Moldova due to Russia’s hybrid actions and war of aggression against Ukraine, IPN reports.

“These are challenges that require a careful, coordinated management by Romania and Chisinau’s partners, including by providing adequate support. These threats and risks, in almost all cases, involve implications for Romania as well. Therefore, the main foreign policy objective of our country in relation to the Republic of Moldova is to support and ensure the irreversibility of the European path, by supporting the implementation of the necessary reforms and public policies, based on the strengthened bilateral Strategic Partnership,” reads a press release published by the President Office of Romania.

According to the quoted source, the constant revalidation, amplified in recent years, of Romania’s position as the main supporter of the Republic of Moldova, as a provider of assistance and concrete solutions (from gas to electricity, fuel oil, human resources, consultancy) and as the main voice promoting Moldova’s European agenda. creates the most favorable preconditions for strengthening the Strategic Partnership.
