The MPs of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) notified the Constitutional Court (CC) “of abusive provisions of the package of laws assumed by the Government”. They request to annul the amendment concerning the visibility of tobacco products, introduction of taxed goods duty-free and introduction of taxes on natural resources, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, MP Alexandru Slusari said the parliamentary group decided to go to the CC after these provisions generated discontent given that they have nothing to do with the measures taken in an emergency situation to support the population and businesses. “The given provisions were approved without any argumentation and pose an increased threat as economic schemes could be implemented alongside the measures aimed at fighting the novel coronavirus,” stated the MP.

He also said that the group proposed a series of measures with another conceptual approach for supporting the people and the business community, in particular the small and medium-sized enterprises.

MP Dinu Plîngău, the author of the application, said the assumption of responsibility for a bill is an extreme measure. The three issues that are not related to the healthcare sector or the improvement of the situation in the economy are abusive and can have a negative impact on the economic sector, where the situation has worsened.

The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, following visits made to districts and the alarming data collected as a result, asked for a meeting with Prime Minister Ion Chicu so as to contrast the real data, to combat the dangers deriving from the authorities’ recklessness and to clarify the government’s intention to seek help from the EU.
