PPPDA demands to stop exerting pressure on employees of health facilities

Representatives of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) request the government to stop exerting pressure on employees of health facilities who inform society about the existing problems and to cooperate with these people. PPPDA leader Andrei Năstase called on the authorities to say officially and objectify how the doctors, including those of the reserve hospitals prepared for the next wave of infections, are outfitted with equipment and sanitarily, IPN reports.

“We are very concerned about the absolutely unpardonable attitude of the authorities to the healthcare system employees who during over a month have shown heroic stoicism in front of the COVID-19 pandemic. The rise in the number of infected doctors when an increasing number of representatives of health facilities signal the insufficiency and poor quality of the protective equipment is extremely worrisome. The government’s reaction to these major problems is incomprehensible. Instead of ordering to massively allocate financial resources for purchasing equipment and optimally protecting doctors, as we have insisted since the first days, it chose to hide the problems, exerts pressure on those who openly speak about the shortages of equipment and even arbitrarily accuses doctors of multiple infections, accusing these of incapacity to use the protective equipment,” Andrei Năstase stated on Facebook Live.

The politician requests the authorities to urgently modify the salary law by introducing a permanent untaxed bonus of 100% of the salary, which would be paid to doctors and other medical staff involved in the fight against the current pandemic. He considers the authorities should also give up making an important part of the capital investment and should amend the 2020 state budget law and redirect funds to the fight against the virus and the consequences of the state of emergency. About 40 million lei can be freed up for the national health system by postponing the erecting of an administrative building alone, said Andrei Năstase.

The PPPDA asks the authorities to swiftly report on the use of the received financial assistance, including from abroad, and to say how the resources provided by the EU and its member states will be utilized.
