Poverty and corruption are Moldova's biggest problems, says Leanca

The main problems faced by Moldovan citizens are poverty, social inequity and corruption, which lead to further issues such as low incomes and unemployment. Outgoing Prime Minister Iurie Leanca told Radio Moldova on Wednesday, December 31, that although some studies show that the level of poverty decreased, this remains one of the country's worst problems especially in rural areas.

“Another issue, of course, is the aggravated and justified feeling of social inequity. They are few but there are people who use or even abuse their positions and relations. And then there is this plague called corruption and many people in villages or cities suffer because of it, because of tax evasion, because of various schemes that dent the budget. They are affected because their wages and pensions are affected”, explained the PM. Additionally, the lack of trust leads to fewer investments and, subsequently, no new jobs are created.

According to Leanca, the new government has to take into consideration these problems when fixing its goals for the next years. He thinks that the urgent and immediate measures and policies that are required concern the fight against corruption and the continuation of reforms.
