The drivers could no longer be obliged to have the registration certificate of the vehicle when they travel through the country. They will need to possess it only when travelling abroad. PAS MP Dumitru Alaiba said the legislation will be amended and the data from the vehicle registration certificate could be checked online, IPN reports.
“Last December, we excluded the obligation to possess the driver’s license when driving as the drivers can be checked without this plastic card. This way, following the next amendment, the drivers will not need to take the papers when they set off. The police can identify both the vehicle and the drivers without needing the papers. This obligation is first of all an inconvenience and also a reason for imposing a fine,” said the MP.
Currently, the drivers who do not have the vehicle registration certificate on them face a fine of 300 lei even if they do not have the papers in order, but forgot them home. According to the MP, the measure is now outdated as the documents can be checked online.
Dumitru Alaiba also said that 5,794 proceedings were instituted over such violations in 2021, with the fines totaling 1.52 million lei.
