The Communist Party's candidate for mayor general of Chisinau Igor Dodon considers the population expects that the electoral contenders will have constructive discussions, not political war, and will provide solutions to the real problems, not ideological confrontation. The Communist candidate developed the topic during debates at Publica TV, which also involved the Liberal Party's candidate Dorin Chirtoaca. According to Igor Dodon, the election campaign cannot be based on war between two opposing camps: liberalism and communism. What matters for the inhabitants of Chisinau is that the elected mayor should be able to cooperate with all the existent political forces and to find solutions to the existing problems, he said. “Unfortunately, the work of the mayors of Chisinau was excessively politicized and was not aimed at identifying solutions to the real problems. We cannot erect barricades. The election campaign is not a war that destroys everything around, but a civilized confrontation of ideas, proposals and solutions,” said Igor Dodon. He also said that a mayor who is not involved in politics will come to terms with everyone. He stated that he can implement his electoral program under the rule of the Alliance for European Integration. An apolitical mayor can establish fruitful cooperation with the ruling alliance, Dodon said Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his surprise at Igor Dodon's assertion that changes may take place on the political arena. “What I heard now about Parliament is very interesting. Mister Dodon says changes can be brought about in the political sphere of Moldova. If you reached an agreement with somebody, tell the people about this so that they do not experience the situation after April 4, 2005 if they vote for a Democratic party,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. On April 4, 2005, representatives of parties that entered Parliament with anti-Communist messages voted in the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin as President of Moldova.
