Political polls in electoral period will be authorized by CEC

Opinion polls concerning political preferences of voters, conducted in the electoral period, will be authorized by the Central Election Commission (CEC). Applications to have polls authorized can be submitted not later than ten days before election day. In the case of the local general elections of November 5, applications will be accepted until October 25, IPN reports.

This way, the research, polling legal entities or public associations registered in the Republic of Moldova will file an application to the CEC. They will present the name, contact data of the organization that commissioned and financed the poll and the name of the organization manager. An extract from the State Register of Legal Units issued within three months before the submission of the application to the CEC or the documents for registering the organization involved in the planning and conduct of the poll will also be necessary.

Those who want to carry out polls need to also present the full list of questions from the questionnaire. If the questions are modified after the CEC adopts the decision to authorize the poll, the applicant will present the updated version of these before these are used in polls. The application must contain the name, contact data and legal form of organization of the company that will conduct the poll, the name and contact data of the representative of the given company, etc.

Under the Election Code, only authorized opinion polls can be made public. The presentation of the results of unauthorized opinion polls is punished in accordance with the law.
