Polish ambassador on lack of Government: joint projects at central level will have to wait

Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Bartłomiej Zdaniuk says the hung parliament situation in Moldova and the inability to form a government will prevent the implementation of some joint projects at central level. However, local projects with Poland’s support run as normal, the diplomat told an interview with IPN.

“Where we can continue some projects and initiatives, we do that in cooperation with civil society and local authorities. As concerns various projects at central level, we have to wait as there is still no government formed after the elections. Perhaps this is the only consequence - that we cannot make the most of our cooperation at the moment”.

At the same time, Bartłomiej Zdaniuk has noted that such situations are not uncommon in Europe. “Quite recently in certain EU countries we saw coalition talks that took a lot of time and perhaps were even painful for some. In some cases they even lasted for more than a year. This is not uncommon. Less so in Poland. Here we have a party which four years ago won the absolute majority in both houses, so there was no need for a coalition. We will have elections this autumn and we will see how things play out”.

But it’s not for a foreign country to give advice on such matters, says the diplomat. “First of all, we respect your independence. For us, independendence is sacred. Why should a foreign country tell you what to do and what not? You have the privilege of freedom as well as the duty of responsibility”, stated Bartłomiej Zdaniuk in an interview with IPN.
