Poliomyelitis situation in European region becomes worse
The poliomyelitis situation in the European region has worsened following the importation of poliomyelitis viruses into Tajikistan. The fact that a large number of migrants from Tajikistan as well as from Moldova go to Russia increases the risk of poliomyelitis viruses being brought into the country. Related statements were made at the meeting of the national extraordinary public health commission that is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ion Negrei, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Government.
The morbidity of acute diarrheal diseases over the first four months of this year increased to 145.6 cases per 100,000 people, as against 131.9 cases in the corresponding period last year. In order to prevent the spread of acute diarrheal diseases and food poisonings, the national extraordinary public health commission adopted a number of epidemiological supervision measures.
The data about the pandemic flu and seasonal influenza show the situation in Moldova is favorable. No new cases of A (H1N1) flu were reported in April-May. The persons who were vaccinated against this type of flu did not develop complications. There are 370,000 anti-flu vaccines in the state reserve at present.
At the end of the meeting, the members of the commission adopted a number of measures to reduce the risks and prevent the aforementioned diseases. The measures will be carried out by the central and local public authorities, and the medical-sanitary and education institutions.
