In the first few months of 2025, nearly 30 smart cars will be on the country's streets to fix traffic violations. They are equipped with cameras and pin violations within a 360-degree radius. The cars do not have police insignia, but have light and sound systems, which will be switched on to stop the car when a serious offense is committed, IPN reports.
The head of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernauteanu, said that the 27 smart cars are now being tested on national routes and in cities. In the near future they will start their full activity and will fix the traffic offenses allowed. This means any violation covered by the law: speeding, overtaking in forbidden places, irregular parking, etc.
Viorel Cernauteanu says that in the case of minor offenses, drivers will be sent letters. If the infringement is serious and endangers the life and safety of other road users, the driver will be stopped immediately.
The system also allows the fixing of cars in search. "For example, in the last three days, 35 cars have been identified in the search. When moving, the systems allows online, if it detects a car in search, to signal this. Soon, the means of transportation will also be connected to another intelligent software, which will also allow the searchers to be identified by facial image", the IGP chief said.
