The police caught two suspected drug smugglers. In a vehicle checked at the Palanca customs post, the police found more than 56 kg of hashish to the value of over 3 million lei. The drugs were smuggled from Spain and were to be taken to Russia. The smugglers hid them in the car’s reservoir, IPN reports.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, the 44-year-old owner of the car was arrested. There was also arrested a suspect aged 39 in whose home in Straseni the police found 2.5 kg of hashish, €5,000 and US$1,000.

During a year, seven persons suspected of forming part of this group were arrested on Moldova’s territory, another three in Russia, while one person in Belarus. Another four persons were put on the wanted list. Of these, two were arrested and extradited, while another one is to be extradited.

A criminal case over drug smuggling was started in this case. If the suspects are found guilty, they will serve 7 to 15 years in jail.
