Police officer put on probation
A policeman from the municipality of Balti was given three years' probation and banned from holding posts in the Ministry of the Interior for a year for use of torture, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Prosecutor General's Office.
The criminal police inspector of the Balti Police Commissariat was found guilty of misusing his authority by using violence and torture. Last January, he ordered two carabineers who accompanied a drunken man to take him to the police station. The man was forced onto a car and conveyed to the station, where the inspector punched and kicked the man, causing him bodily injuries.
The decision can be appealed to a higher court.
