The police found nearly two tonnes of live fish without papers of origin in Sangerei and Straseni districts. The fish, valued at about 53000 lei was to be sold in marketplaces in Chisinau and Sangerei, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the General Inspectorate of Police, in the first case the officers found about 500 kg of fish during a routine control of a van in Sangerei. The driver didn't have any documents of origin, while the fish was transported in unclean plastic containers.
In the second case, the police found over a tonne of fish of different species in a Mercedes vehicle. The driver, a man from Chisinau, was stopped by a patrol unit near Negresti village, Straseni district, and couldn't provide any documents of origin or certificates of quality for the fish.
The two drivers have been taken to the police inspectorates in Straseni and Sangerei for further hearings.
