Mobile police teams and of the National Road Transport Agency (ANTA) will monitor all the major roads of the Republic of Moldova so as not to allow people to be illegally transported in an organized way to vote in the presidential elections on November 1. If violations are identified, the carriers will be penalized, IPN quoted secretary of state at the Ministry of Home Affairs Sergiu Golovaci as saying in a press briefing.

The move is made to comply with the Central Election Commission’s decision stipulating that only the movement of motor vehicles that can transport at most eight persons and the regular road passenger transportation routes will be allowed on November 1, between 7am and 9pm. It bans the transportation of voters to polling stations by buses or taxicabs by agreement between the road transport operator and third parties others than the traveller/passenger, except for voters with disabilities.

Also, the managers of public transport by which the citizens will get to polling stations should provide the travellers with disinfectant that could be used when getting onto and out of the vehicle. The passengers must be requested to wear masks.

The authorities responsible for the conduct of elections are urged to take measures to ensure a high level of protection for the citizens who will go to vote: to place informative posters about the protective measures, to provide such additional equipment as masks and disinfectants and to measure the temperature on entrance to polling stations.
